A Part of the NSWJA History

This old Certificate of Membership of the New South Wales Justices' Association was discovered hanging in the old Gaol Museum at Silverton, near Broken Hill by the Late Rev. Robert Hume.

The inscription on the certificate reads:

1911
NEW SOUTH WALES
JUSTICES ASSOCIATION
BE IT KNOWN
THAT JAMES KERSHAW
WAS ADMITTED TO MEMBER
- SHIP OF THIS ASSOCIATION
20TH FEBRUARY 1911
N.C. BRIERLEY PRESIDENT
JOHN KAYE VICE PRESIDENT
SECRETARY
DATED 20TH FEBRUARY 1911
SYDNEY
NEW SOUTH WALES

The date on this Certificate is very early 1911 and this suggests that the New South Wales Justices' Association was probably founded in late 1910, as the Association had to exist and have its membership certificates prepared for this early 1911 date.
